To be clear, I’m a nurse not a writer but there is something familiar in your style to the Black Country/ Welsh humour. Travel tip. Try the mumbles. The light will go out on the steel works soon.
My great great grandfather was a Methodist preacher called Absalom. Apparently he would ride around the villages on a bike preaching. It’s a well known academic question in England. Methodism or Marxism? The birth of socialism? Personally I’m an atheist communist but I see the significance of Methodism, it’s not either/or. I recognise something very familiar in your writing. A kind of clarity with humour and no nonsense but carrying a lot of depth. Your an exceptional writer.
“We mistake new technologies for new purposes. We confuse fresh methods with fresh motives.” Yup. No wonder our heads are spinning… as for clutching rocks, I prefer a smooth river stone I found on the banks of the Ohio.
The Cornish coast is amazing. But English history, the big question? Marxism or Methodism ? The Welsh ? For me it’s Marx every time but they are not opposites. The Welsh coast. Methodism was a West Country phenomena, primarily in wales but Cornwall and the Cotswolds and the Black Country.(different meanings attributed but the soot of industry or the richness of the soil) Blake those dark satanic mills. You’ve read George Eliot? The heart of the Industrial Revolution.to come full circle Cornwall is amazing but wales has that with Norman castles

Plus liz Taylor lost her heart to a Welshman called Richard burton. And is to this day is celebrated for loving a sing song in a Welsh pub.
The geography of wales is the same as Cornwall, but half the price and the locals fought the miners strike. Travel tip.
